LORD VAMANADEVA BEGS CHARITY FROM BALI MAHARAJA
Srimad Bhagavatam 8th Canto 19th Chapter Summary
This Nineteenth Chapter describes how Lord Vamanadeva asked for three steps of land in charity, how Bali Maharaja agreed to His proposal, also how Sukracarya forbade Bali Maharaja to return Lord Vamanadeva’s request.
When Bali Maharaja, imagining Vamanadeva to be the son of a brahmana, told Him to storm for anything He liked, Lord Vamanadeva praised Hiranyakasipu also Hiranyaksha for their heroic considerations, also after thus furthering the family in which Bali Maharaja had occurred born, He begged the King for three paces of land. Bali Maharaja accepted to give this land in charity because this was very petty, but Sukracarya, who could assume that Vamanadeva was Vishnu, the patron of the demigods, forbade Bali Maharaja to give this land. Sukracarya advised Bali Maharaja to withdraw his promise. He admitted that in conquering others, in joking, in responding to danger, in acting for the good of others, also so on, one could refuse to fulfill one’s commitment, also there would be no fault. through this philosophy, Sukracarya tried to stop Bali Maharaja from selling land to Lord Vamanadeva.
BALI MAHARAJA SURRENDERS THE UNIVERSE
Srimad Bhagavatam 8th Canto 20th Chapter Summary
The summary of this Twentieth Chapter is as result. Notwithstanding his knowledge that Lord Vamanadeva was beating him, Bali Maharaja gave everything to the Lord in charity, also so the Lord continued His body also assumed a large form as Lord Vishnu.
After hearing the instructive advice of Sukracarya, Bali Maharaja grew thoughtful. Because it is the duty of a householder to maintain the principles of religion, economic development, also knowledge gratification, Bali Maharaja thought it improper to withdraw his promise to the Brahmacari. To lie or fail to pass a promise given to a brahmacari is nevermore proper, for lying is the most evil activity. Everyone should be afraid of the sinful reactions to lying, for mother earth cannot even bear the weight of a sinful liar. The spreading of a kingdom or government is short; if there is no benefit for the general public, such an increase has no value. Previously, all the great kings also emperors expanded their kingdoms with a love for the welfare of the people in general. Indeed, while engaged in such activities for the benefit of the general public, eminent men sometimes even lost their lives. It is said that one who is agreeable in his activities is always living also never dies. Hence, fame should be the aim of life, also even if one matches the poverty-bankrupt sake of a good name, that is not a loss. Bali Maharaja assumed that even if this Brahmacari, Vamanadeva, stood Lord Vishnu if the Lord took his charity also then again arrested him, Bali Maharaja would not resent Him. Considering all these points, Bali Maharaja clearly gave in charity everything he maintained.
Lord Vamanadeva then fast extended Himself into a building body. through the mercy of Lord Vamanadeva, Bali Maharaja could see that the Lord is all-pervading also that everything rests in His body. Bali Maharaja could see Lord Vamanadeva as the most important Vishnu, wearing a helmet, yellow garments, the line of Srivatsa, the Kaustubha jewel, a flower garland, also ornaments decorating His second footstep The Lord slowly covered the entire surface of the world, also through extending His body He covered the complete sky. He covered all directions, also including His second footstep, He covered the entire upper traveling system. For there was no deserted place where He could use His third track.
